In no particular order.

Firstly, although this may be a bit controversial, I have decided that the Lord's Prayer in welsh doesn't sound quite so 'holy' as it does in english. Perhaps this is just because although I know what they are saying I don't actually understand it. Being a church in wales school means that occasional token spatterings of welsh must be spoken, and so as part of that in Junior worship we take turns as to whether things are said in english or welsh. Unfortunately, sometimes things being said in welsh make me want to laugh. Oh dear!

The other week, when it was my first day in school I was in with some year threes (so 7/8 year olds) and I was party to the most bizzare conversation. I was helping two girls, Kayleigh and Elizabeth (Betty for short) with science and the conversation proceeded as follows, please bear in mind that this was completely unprecedented:

K: 'Betty, does your mum have 8 kids?'
B: 'No, she has 6'
K: 'Miss[me], did you know that Betty's mum's had 6 kids....... and she ain't got no stretch marks!'

Well I was somewhat flabbergasted. I wasn't quite sure what to say and was trying pretty hard not to burst out laughing. I also wasn't quite sure that 7 year olds should know about stretch marks, and certainly shouldn't know about whether her friend's mum has them! The things small children come out with!
Betty then proceeded to tell me about how she was living with her bampi(welsh, translation=grandad) cos his wife had reported him to the landlord so he'd get thrown out of the house. It seems he was having trouble paying rent, so her mum was thinking of buying the house etc etc etc. I'm fairly sure I didn't have a clue about, or particularly care about financial situations when I was seven. Children grow up so fast these days in some respects (although not in all).

Yesterday Kayleigh's big sister, Kasey was telling me about how the ring she wore [on her wedding finger] was from her parents, apparently she doesn't wear the rings her boyfriends give her, she keeps them in a drawer because they are too special! Note, boyfriends! Also note, they give her rings! - She is nine!

Yesterday, on the way round to Katie, Alison and Bev's for dinner I met these two, and another girl on Crwys road,
"Hi Miss"
"Hello"
"Miss, do you know what we are doing in literacy tomorrow?"
"No, I don't, I'm sorry."
(In a really disappointed and disapproving tone) "Oh, miisss...."

As well I have discovered a ten year old who knows everything about every football player ever and the joys of teaching salsa dancing to year four and fives! They weren't very impressed with having to hold hands!

------------------------------------
Last night after dinner at Katie, Alison and Bev's, (with Lizzie in attendance as well) we discovered that Bev's hamster, Max, had died. A very sad event. We decided to go and bury her and after some discussion settled on roath park as her final resting place. We went to Tesco's to buy a suitable implement for digging hamster graves. Unfortunately they didn't have any trowels so we had to buy a large cooking spoon. We had fun kicking a tennis ball around the aisles as well. We think that the tesco's man wandering around with seemingly not much to do may have been sent to check that we were not getting up to any mischief, oh well. ( Incedently I discovered that Tesco's sells an amazing range of things for £1, including DIY tools and kitchen stuff, I got quite excited by it all!)
After a short drive to the park the five of us stood around under a handy tree, shining the lights of our phones on the ground and dug a suitable hole. I think we may have looked a bit shifty, and we did get some funny looks from people who happened to be walking by. Katie discovered a fascination for worms and Lizzie felt at home getting back to her roots by pulling up offending roots that were blocking the digging of the grave, as well as generally flicking earth all over us all!
And so Max in her clipper-tea-bag-box cum coffin came to rest under a Christmas tree in roath park. We hope that no dog came and dug her up today, but we're not too optimistic!
All in all I had a lovely evening!

Oh, and if you ever want a laugh ask Katie to tell you about her constipated bunny rabbits and the toothbrush, or some fish stories. I was laughing so hard I nearly cried!

Friends

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thankyou to all my friends. There are so many of you that I am not going to name you all individually (mostly that's just in case I forget someone!). Realised that makes me sound really arrogant and popular, thats hopefully not that case (well the arrogant at least!)

Anyway, back on track, I just wanted to say that I've really appreciated you all recently. I havn't been feeling particularly down or anything, but recently I've had a chance to have some really cool chats with some of you, especially with some people that I don't get to talk to that much (although next time, nearly six hours for one msn conversation is possibly a bit long!). For the rest of you who havn't had 'cool chats' recently please feel free to start one, I'm nearly always happy to participate, if not I shall do my best to get in touch with you all properly asap!

Thanks for being so supportive, for always being there, and for the most part being a really funny bunch of people. So in the grand tradition of my recent blogging, here is another one. It was recently asked of me by the lovely Bern-Mari Baker at Cosmeston St after CU last night, but I thought it worthy of sharing with you all, the general public. It is as follows:

If you could relive just one hour of your life,

what hour would you choose to relive and why?

Once again, any contributions are welcome. All good fun and confirming the fact that I think this is what I want to do when I have to finish my degree and enter the big bad world of work. (Let's try not to think about it too much!)
I then spent the best part of a week making my wedding dress for next summer (but that is all I shall say on that subject). Taking a break for my mum's birthday and to have my belated birthday party. This was good fun, we played party games, including the inevitable pass the parcel with forefits and had party food, including party rings, jammie dodgers, chocolate fingers and jelly and ice-cream.
Unfortunately the freezers were broken in Tesco's and so they had no ice-cream for sale. This resulted in me trudging around all the other shops in town for the best part of 40 mins looking for ice-cream for sale. Amazingly there was no trace of a tub of ice-cream. Eventually i found some expensive but not brilliant tasting stuff in the very last shop I was going to look in before giving up and taking my weary feet home. (Why does that always happen?)

The Life of a loner:
Now my whole family have left me at home on my lonesome. My sisters having disappeared to camp and my parents away on holiday by themselves. This means that other than the list of about 7 chores my mum has left me to do in a whole week I am by myself with absolutely nothing to do and no-one really to go and see. It is a sad life when the highlight of your week is going to be the fact that you get to clean the fridge out in a couple of days, if that's not excitement enough the powder tray in the washing machine also needs cleaning! (Sounds a bit like two more days for Becky Lamb to add to the highlights of my life on her blog!)
I do have a new phone though which my lovely (likely story) phone company sent to me which is fairly swanky and exciting.
I am very glad that I will not be spending the rest of my life living alone with nothing to do, a week is too long as it is. It is very boring and I'm going a little crazy already, who knows what drastic measures I will be reduced to by the end of the week. To think I used to want to live by myself forever - certain to say I'd never actually done it in practice at that point.

Well enough morbidness, I can go and cook dinner now...

What a wonderful time in Pontarddulais!

Well finally I get a chance to update everyone on my brilliant week last week. So, last week (or technically the end of the week before) I went here:

Noddfa Evangelical Church in Pontarddulais(near LLanelli in West Wales for those uncertain of it's location). www.noddfa.com
To help with this:

A mission week put on by the church which Ben Carswell was preaching at all week and had asked me to help out with.

I stayed with the following people (the two on the left):

Hywel and Lenore, what an amazing couple! Hewyl has a wooden leg and is an absolute laugh. You wish your grandparents were like them, they were hilarious, playing several practical jokes, including a brilliant one on Ben. They looked after me very well for the week and were absolutely lovely. Hywel's hobby is wood turning, which he is brilliant at, their house is full of wooden things he's made, and I came away with a few items as well. They were both stars helping out all week, with leaflet delivering and door-to-door work. Just two of the lovely people I met.

Here are some more lovely people I met and worked with:

Anwen, Hedd, Lowri, Ben, Kerry, Alison, Andrew along with many others.

Anwen and Lowri are two of the most enthusiastic 16 year old gospel workers I've ever met. Hedd is the nicest, most lovely guy I've met in years and years (and on Ponty CU exec) and probably the other mugs need no introduction since most of you know them anyway.

So we spent a week in a whirlwind of activity. We started with the Bont Carnival, a yearly attraction not to be missed, 'advertising' the church and making it's presence known. Much of the rest of the week was filled with door-to-door visits around the village and surrounding areas. Each evening we had meetings in the ambulance hall wqith various people coming to tell their testimonies and Ben doing a talk afterwards. These were really great, it was really good to hear so many inspiring stories and we saw quite a lot of people coming along as well.

General reflections on the week and a bit: I had a really great week of mission. I enjoyed myself thoroughly, much more than I was planning for, I met so many lovely people and had the privilege of working alongside them for the gospel, we pray that much fruit will be seen as a result of the week. The Bont is a lovely place, it would be great to go back again sometime, maybe I can go back and help out again next year. Noddfa is a lovely church, with a great spirit and many great people. It would be great to see how they all get on, especially as they move into their new building. A week of new experiences and of feeling slightly oout of place as an english person in a welsh speaking village, to me my accent seemed very noticable, but I worked on it during the week and am reliably informed that certain words were sounding very welsh by the time I left (Pat and Hedd!).

I did have one more picture to put on but it seems I've reached my limit, so sorry Hedd but the slightly embarassing one of you doesnt make it.

School

Well for the last week I have been helpng in a local infant school as a TA (Teaching/Classroom assistant). This has involved much sticking in of things, much helping small people (or anklebiters as Hedd likes to refer to them), much reprimanding and cajoling of said small people, several rushed lunches, sports day in the rain and much general enjoyment. Also hoping that none of the small people picked up that the book we were using to learn about cows talked about castration, not sure how I would have dealt with any questions on that one...!
One thing that particularly amused me today was watching a 6 year old boy squish a tomato absolutely everywhere, it was definitely the biggest mess I have ever seen a tomato make (semi-closely followed by the mess I made last week when Hedd did not warn me he had put a tomato in my sandwich, actually not particularly closely, but it is the second biggest tomato mess I've encountered). Now I agree that giving children fruit to eat in school is a good idea, but perhaps including tomatoes as one of those fruits was not such a brilliant idea, it's probably safer to stick to bananas, apples and such like. Oh well, there's always next week for further joys...!

A despicable lack of posting

Well I shall take this opportunity to apologise for the severe lack of posts that have appeared on my blog for nearly the last month. This has been truly shocking of me, please Becky Lamb, find it in your heart to forgive me.
Some highlights of the last month or so include my trip to Scotland with Dan and the others. I had a really good time, managed quite a lot of walking and some sightseeing too. I would put up pictures, but I don't have a digital camera, and come to think of it I didn't actually take any pictures anyway, and neither did any of the others send me their pictures so I can't.
Following this and a couple of days in Hull I returned to Cardiff for a busy few days, full of organising for beach party (including making the biggest food shop I've ever taken, or hope to take again for quite a while, and Katie and I being told of by the scary Tesco bakery woman for taking too much bread) and for my birthday party.
The party was good, with many puddings in attendance (several people as well), and interestingly gatecrashed by lots of screaming teenage girls from Highfields - with Bev and Rachel.
Becah party was nice, after all the stress of organising it (once the coach had actually turned up that is!), although it was a little bit too windy necessitating a case of eat your lunch very quickly.
Following that busy episode I returned to London for the summer. I've spent two weeks being pretty domesticated, washing, ironing, baking cakes, generally being helpful and helping my mum's year 6 class make slippers for their DT and installing a million new computer programmes on all the laptops in my auntie's school.
Tomorrow I head back to Wales, To help Ben Carswell run a mission at Andrew Norbury's church, should be good, I'm looking forward to it.
Unfortunately this means that it'll be at least a week and a half before I get another opportunity to write anything on here. Giving my excuses in advance this time! Hope everyone's keepng well.

When the badger built a house...

Yesterday I was watching the news and they were interviewing this guy called, ....wait for it......

...Nimrod Ping,

what a quality name is that??! It made me smile so much that I actually laughed out loud and promptly relayed this information to my driving instructor who had come to pick me up for my driving test. (Incidently he didn't believe that it could be the guy's real name).
So just briefly I would like to pay homage to Nimrod. Unfortunately he has Hepatitas C and so is not as healthy as perhaps he would like to be.
I would also like to mention all those joyful faces who light up my life and have birthdays this week, you know who you are, but... Aimee, Laura May, Pete, Andrew, Alison, John (and for Amber and Helen next week in advance). Happy Birthday to you, enjoy and continue the smiles.

Yesterday at CU we had Jago Wynne speaking, he was pretty cool. He has a really nice voice. As does Tim actually who taught us a new song. That was pretty cool as well.
I am enjoying the fact that at the moment I do not really have very much to do, having finished all my exams and driving and stuff. Looking forward to Scotland next week. Watching an awful lot of Friends (does anyone happen to have series 7 that I could borrow by the way?) and generally planning things. All good fun.
At this point I shall stop the crazy ramblings and bow out gracefully.

Using the Catchphrase

Well I thought I should publically acknowledge the fact that yesterday I did in fact use the famous catchphrase in a real-live conversation, completely naturally I might add. At our old and new committe joint lunch get together in CF10's we were attempting to rearrange the tables so there might be space for us all to sit. Having tried several formations another one was attempted, however I did not see how it would actually create any more space than the previous formations had. Thus my comment....'How does that benefit?'. I will say that I didn't actually realise I had said it until Becky Lamb gladly pointed it out to me, but of course I am grateful.

Also yesterday, after CU we had an amazing thunderstorm. the lightening was really great, pretty spectacular, and as we were at the top of the union building we had a really great view. That was exciting, although it did absolutely bucket it down so everybody got pretty wet.

Today I have enrolled for next year, everything went smoothly so that was good, and I handed my portfolios in as well which was very exciting, they are now out of my hands and I just have to do lots of revision. Starting today preferably. Better get a move on then.....

What happened to all the butchers?

Yesterday was a very lovely day, the sun was a-shining, it was so warm that I had to change from jeans to a skirt and flip-flops (incidently it was the first appearance of the flip-flops this year and they still had some sand on them from last summer, the longing for this one begins....) and I got to go for a walk.
I didn't really want to go for a walk actually, i just wanted to go to the butchers, but that proved to be rather difficult. Samuel Orr was due to be paying me a visit around dinner time yesterday and I had planned on cooking pork chops. However, when I tried to bless our local family butchers (Preen's on Crwys Road) with my patronage I couldn't find the shop. It was on my way back from co-op, so I figured I must have absent mindedly walked right past it. Duly I turned around and walked back along the road looking for it (probably much to the confusion of a group of chinese men standing on the corned of Monthemer Rd). Well I made it back to co-op and as I had once again not found the butchers, I walked up and down the street one more time, but it was still nowhere to be seen, so I gave up and went home (plus the chinese men were probably fearing for my sanity by this point!).
Having arrived home I asked Joyski Shannonova what had happened to the butchers, and she informed me that it has in fact been closed for over a week, no one knows what has happened - we fear that we may not have frequented it enough and so it has closed down (but we hope not,
plus Ben assures me that there always seems to be a lot of customers in there.)
Since this was the case I decided to make a trip to the butchers on Albany road to further my search for pork chops. But would you believe it, Lo and behold, on arrival, that butchers too was closed! (The trip was somewhat fruitful however because I managed to buy Clare's birthday present).
And so I was starting to despair that I might not be able to feed Sam the pork chops after all. Eventually, after much searching I found some to purchase, on special offer in Iceland (which incidently is not somewhere that you would really consider for the purchasing of pork chops - but they did taste quite nice.) On my way home I saw Kerry Bower cycle past me and all in all it was a profitable trip. However the moral of this story is to never leave buying your supplies of fresh meat until the last minute, or your predicament might be worse than mine was.

Also yesterday CU was really good, we had a delightful time and Jonathan Fletcher spoke very well (and as Ben Carswell didn't hesitste to inform Alison, 'Jonathan Fletcher - he's single you know'?!). We weren't sure why Alison needed to know this.
On our way home we decided that we could put on a bollywood version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, with our very own scary Joy playing Mrs Potiphar. We also delighted with the presence of a russian friend in our midst - Joyski Shannonova, maybe one day I can write up the life and times of Joyski Shannonova.

Well I think I have said enough for one day, plus the essays are calling me unfortunately.

The Disposable Fast Life

Well everyone, great to hear WA was such a good time and hear from you all again. I must apologise for the poorness of my updating skills. I've been around in various places so far this holiday, but to be fair no particular inspiration has struck me giving me a subject to post on.

I was thinking some random thoughts earlier and remembered Valentine's day when I went shopping in town with Clare and Ken (that boy shops well for a man - Clare has him well trained!). We were in Superdrug and Ken introduced us to the wonders of Soap that needs no water. It was amazing, you just squirted the stuff onto your hands and rubbed it in until it was all gone, what genius! And it worked as well, my hands smelt really good and they felt really fresh. I would have brought some just cos it was so exciting, but the budget didn't allow for it, maybe another time. How convenient is this stuff for our consumer, fast-paced lifestyle! (Plus the fact that it was just an exciting novelty).
I have a friend at home that has waterless shampoo as well, it looks just like talcum powder, you rub it into your hair, and hey presto! your hair has been washed.

This did get me thinking though at the nature of society, how slapdash and throwaway everything is. We all run our own courses, occasionally colliding every now and again, rushing around here and there, but ultimately not really getting anything done. How fruitless it all is. What are we pursuing, and why is it so vital that we get there quickly? Sometimes I wonder if I was born in the wrong era, as much as I enjoy my life, wouldn't it be so much easier to live in some other, much simpler and clearly defined time?
Ultimately, I guess it all just comes as a result of the fall and our own selfish desires. From that perspective - won't Heaven be great?! For there's only one thing in which we can find utter fulfilment, how exciting is it that we have it?!

Cure for Bird Flu

A weekend of simple childhood pleasures

I realise that it's now nearly the next weekend, but I thought I might give an entry on last weekend and the fun that I enjoyed.
Saturday: 8 slightly crazy members of CU committee took a train journey to a very cold and somewhat miserable Barry Island for a daytrip. The obvious question is why, our response, why not! The many delights of the day included fish and chips from the best shop in town (as a local lady reliably informed us!), a 3-legged race accross the beach (cheered on by local dog walkers and the only other crazy people on the beach), a walk out to the point where we were very nearly blown away with the force of the wind, watching Sam strut his funky stuff on the dance machine and the lovely bonus of free curry in a very nice pub at half time of the Wales-France match.
Saturday evening I caught the train to the lovely destination of Undy (just the other side of Newport for those not in the know because it is my friend Heather's birthday today and so I went to pay her a visit. This involved the joy of seeing some friends I have not seen in a while and watching a couple of slightly strange dvd's. All was well and good as I settled down for the night in Heather's little brother's bed (which he was not in at the time).

Sunday: Paid a visit to Heather's church, which was nice, and then from there we went out for her birthday party. A group of nearly 30 of us headed into foreign territory/home (across the Severn bridge!) in the direction of Cattle Country adventure park. This is one of those 'Wacky-warehouse' type places that you loved to visit as a child but normall got pushed out of the way by the older kids who took the place over! (Obviously we tried very hard not to be those older kids!) Reliving the joys of vertical death slides, zip wires, ball pools and general indoor play area type fun. Tag around the inflatable area and numerous types of slides and things to clamber up and down. One of my proudest moments was lasting 2nd longest on the buckin' broncho, beaten only by Owen, but beating the rest of the boys! (Although I was somewhat sore for the next couple of days!) But overall I feel a good time had by all, even if we did act as if we were about 10 all day!

The Joys of a Rhyme

Following Alison and I's discovery of the amusing limerick in the Cross of Christ, I thought I would try and see what other amusing limericks I could come up with, so the following are a selection, probably not the best the internet has to offer, but certainly not the worst! I have thought before about how he could easily have been talking about me. For it seems, as those who know me well, or even reasonably well, will know I often have trouble making decisions, especially when they involve someone else as well as me. This morning/afternoon it has reoccurred to me that it is in fact mostly in deciding little, unimportant things that I have trouble in coming to a decision. For example, what film to watch, what to spend time doing, whether to go out or not (but again this is mostly when the descisions affect someone else as well). I think it's generally because often I honestly don't mind what I do, but I guess a lot of times that isn't particularly helpful.
The problem comes in that several of the people I spend a lot of time with, and therefore have to make decisions with seem to have the same problem as me, Dan, Joy...! The resolving of this issue can then seem to take quite a lot longer than if somenone was just decisive.
It seems that when faced with a bigger, more majorly important decisions I do not have so many problems in deciding what course of action to take. Hopefully this is in fact because someone bigger than me is lending a hand in the area of guiding, but anyway this is my observation.
I have in fact made some decisions recently, so that was pretty exciting - although I still have plenty outstanding that need to be made.

I wonder why this is? Is it a common problem? And whether it's something I'm stuck with for ever? (if so, Dan and I may be in trouble!) Can you start being decisive? Oh well, I don't know, and do I really mind?!!!

Where have all the Wispas gone?

Whilst I was in the Humanities cafeteria with Helen earlier today I observed that one could purchase many varieties of Aero (the chocolate bar), mint ones, plain ones, orange ones, little ones, big fat ones. I also observed that it has been a really long time since I last saw a Wispa chocolate bar. Why is this???

Now Aeros are all well and good (obviously apart from the fact that they're made by Nestle, which the university is supposed to be boycotting anyway - Incidently, I would boycot Nestle except they sell banana Nesquick, and that is something that I just can't live without - sorry!), but really Wispas taste bettter, it's Cadbury chocolate after all, and they have smaller holes in so you actually get more for your money. As I remember they're probably cheaper anyway.
It seems to me that the only time you ever see Wispa's is at christmas, if you ever get those variety packs that have one of a whole bunch of chocolate bars in - why is this people? And so I ask: Where have all the Wispas gone? Should we start a campaign to bring them back?

Now the Wispa is not in fact my favourite chocolate bar, there are many great chocolate bars, it would be hard to know where to start (although that particular honour is shared jointly between the Milky-Way and the original, blue Boost bars - although frozen Mars bars are pretty good, as are Drifters, Toffee Crisps, oh, and the Creme Egg, I shouldn't have started this!), but surely the purity of the chocolate in it deserves some recognition.

Getting Married

Well yesterday, Becky the Lamb asked me why everyone is getting married, she was worried that she would never be one of them - she said I should know since I am one of them - However I do not think that I do know. I would hope that they all love each other and I'll take a fair guess that it's because it's God's plan for them but otherwise I do not know. So I thought I could ask everyone - Why is everyone getting married? Ideas welcome.

On Friday when we were on the way to Newtown for New Leaders Training weekend we had to make several stops so Joy could try not to leave things behind. Well anyway, Ian (of Nimmo-Smith fame) suddenly announced as we were looking at the stars
'I don't think that I'd like to be a mouse right now.'
Well I was in hysterics. He did qualify that statement eventually, but I thought it was very funny the way it was out of the blue like that.
The weekend was really amazing, very challenging and I have loads of ideas to make the CU pray. It was really cool. We had great team bonding getting somewhat muddy as we tried not to slide all the way down a hill and Ollie tried not to fall in the river, trying to balance all over small climbing frames as well. There was loads of snow and it was really cool. Well Lizzie needs to go eat now, so I shall take my leave. Au revoir!

And the World is Great

Today, all is well with my little world.

The sun is shining very nicely, so it is nearly even verging on warm out.

There is no rain

Recently I have eaten quite a lot of pancakes

I had an amazing dream last night

Tim and Annette had a baby girl - so eventually I will be an aunty

And Jack Johnson is alive, so all is really well and good!!!!

So last night I went with Jamie to see Jack Johnson and it was absolutley amazing!!! It was a brilliant concert. Both the support acts were really good as well, especially ALO (will have to try and get their album), even more so with the song Jack sang with them. The set was really cool and he played loads and loads of songs. His encore was 4 0r 5 so that pretty much says it. And the duet with Matt Costa was fabulous, their harmmony was really good.

Well I won't go into raptures too much (you can look at Jamie's blog for that - I think he might be on a high for weeks!!) But I had an absolutley brilliant night, even if there were like a million tall guys and I couldn't always see! So thanks Jamie, for my ticket, and for being lovely enough to point me to places where I might be able to see! As James would say - my night was awesomly cool!!

An Observation

This one is especially for Emma

- I just saw a yellow Frodo wrapper - what have they done?!?

Pebbledashing

Who invented pebbledashing, and why?! (For those not in the know thats when small pebbles are attatched using the medium of plaster to the outside of your wall).

First of all, how and why did they even come up with the idea in the first place - 'I know, we can make this wall less attractive by sticking stones to it' . Surely it involves so much more effort than it is worth. Another thing is the fact that it makes it extremely painful should you happen to graze yourself on the said wall.

Pebbledashing never looks exciting, its always in a dingy brown colour. It's also pretty impossible to change - so once some crazy person has done it to your wall you are stuck with it forever, also to clean, and stuff can get stuck in between the stones.

Once, many years ago in the days when Bruce Forsyth was still presenting the generation game we used to watch the programme, and once one of the challenges was to see how much of the wall you could pebbledash in a minute or something. But it was actually really hard, there was like a proper technique to it and everything, you can't just throw the stones at the wall you know. Why why why did anyone actually bother to develop this, surely no good can come of this massive waste of time??

This has turned into a rant really, but what is wrong with plain old brickwork?

The Legendary Sunday Roast

It was many years ago that I decided that the best dinner was in fact a good old roast dinner, only narrowly beaten by the amazing Christmas dinner, (that means you get sausages in bacon and stuffing and all sorts of nice stuff, yummy!) this however is only a form of roast dinner really, so they sort of count as one and the same.

Anyway I was thinking the other day about what is the best meat for a roast dinner and how the four meats rank. It was quite clear that chicken comes first cos it is great and also quite clear that beef comes at the bottom of the ranking, just cos it's sometimes quite tough any chewey, and just because compared to the others it just doesn't taste so good.

My problem came in deciding whether pork or lamb should take second place. If you have pork you get to have crackling as well, which is very tasty and amazing (especially when my mum makes it), also you can have apple sauce which is good too. When you get to leftovers though pork doesn't rank so well cos there's not so much you can make with it so you just have to eat cold meat. Lamb on the other hand has a better range of leftover dishes that it can be used to make. Also, when you actually have the roast, as long as it's a nice piece of lamb it does actually tast pretty good.

And so I think I have to conclude that both lamb and pork will have to come in joint second for now, at least until I have some new ideas. Chicken, however is clearly the winner in all situations and so we can claim, chickens are great!

Looks are Decieving

Well I am home in London for the weekend. In a house full of ill people, not sure if this is a great idea but not much I can do about it now! This is the point where we hope I don't catch it.

I realised the other day whilst on the phone that I have much more of an accent when talking to people from home. Alison would have laughed at me! No need for a 'how does that benefit' recitation. Obviously i'm just a cockney lass at heart!

So, on my way home yesterday I was walking through central station when one of those sales ladies approached me.

'Are you under 16, my love?' said she.

'No' I replied.

'Really'

'Yes'

'How old are you then?'

'Getting on for twenty'

'Really? You only look about 16. ... Did you have to pay for your glasses?' ...

And so yet another person has mistaken me for being a lot younger than I am. Last month a man in the market asked me if the cushion I was buying was for a school project. It is interesting how as I'm getting older the age they think I look doesn't seem to change much. Not sure what this says about me??! Obviously I comfort myself with the knowledge that I am a very mature individual, and what I lack in looks I make up for in wisdom and personality! (Who am I kidding!!!) Oh well, they say we're only young once, my youth will obviously just last longer than most!

A New Beginning

Well, after some encouragement from others I decided to procrastinate a bit and set up my own blog, obviously this being the result. As yet I'm not sure how this will go, but we shall see.

So yesterday at open house we were making lists. It started with Sam Orr, Andrew Norbury and I and grew into a manyfold group of people. We started with the 7 Deadly sins and with a bit of help we got them all. Unfortunately we only managed 3 of the 7 Wonders of the world, so if anyone happens to know them please feel free to enlighten us.

The big work of the evening was naming the States of America. To begin with we couldn't work out how many there were, but we started naming and eventually got to 53. At this point we ground to a halt and so Faye went to look it up on the internet. The problem was, when she printed out the official list for us there were only 50 on there. We conceeded that perhaps Washington DC was not a state, but the other 2 we had that the printout didn't were Philadelphia (which I've been to) and New England (which Sam has been to). At this point we declared we were somewhat puzzled and gave up for the evening. But if any of you can enlighten us as to how many there actually are and what they are please feel free!
